Amanah raises motions on three-cornered fights, water issues and election director

JOHOR BARU: Proposals on potential three-cornered fights in the Johor state election were among three key motions raised at Johor Parti Amanah Negara’s divisional representatives meeting.

Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said the first motion touched on Pakatan Harapan’s position at the state level.

He said the motion suggested the coalition contest all 56 state seats in the event of three-cornered contests.

“That is the wish of the delegates and grassroots in this state,” he said on Saturday (Sept 27).

“While we can debate and propose, the final decision will still be determined by the Presidential Council. There are also rumours that Barisan Nasional is not comfortable if there is no three-cornered fight,” he said.

“With three-cornered fights, it means everyone will have to battle it out on the ground,” he added at a press conference held with the Johor Amanah Convention at a hotel here.

Aminolhuda then said the second motion highlighted water supply issues, which could affect the state’s development if not resolved before 2030.

“Water is a basic necessity. If this problem is not addressed, we fear development will be hampered, especially with growing data centre investments in Johor,” he added.

“We also hope the state government will take firmer enforcement action to prevent pollution of water sources,” he said.

The Seri Gading MP said the third motion proposed appointing a Pakatan state election director.

He said the role would ensure that the operations of election machinery, seat negotiations and cooperation with Barisan are managed systematically.

“We can see in Sabah, even though the Prime Minister wanted Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to work together, Barisan rejected it,” he said.

“That shows the importance of having a committee or state election director to align strategies with the central leadership,” he added.

“We will send a letter to arrange an official meeting between the state Pakatan chairman and state Barisan chairman,” he said.

In June, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also Johor Barisan chairman, said the Johor state election will be held no later than April 2027.

He said this is in line with the end of the administration’s current term.
