Telco workers' car tailed, harassed by four pickup trucks in KK

KOTA KINABALU: An alleged road attack with multiple vehicles targeting a single car was reported in the city early on Tuesday (Sept 23).

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the complainant and two colleagues were in a car on telecommunications company rounds at the time of the 3.55am incident.

According to ACP Kasim, the 28-year-old local man said in his police report that their car was suddenly tailed by four other vehicles.

"The vehicles came from the Tanjung Aru road vicinity and... the victim’s car was said to have been struck with rocks, hammers and other objects.

"The complainant also said that one of the vehicles even tried to ram their car," ACP Kasim added.

As a result, the car had a broken rear window as well as dents and damaged tail lights.

ACP Kasim said the complainant identified the other vehicles as pickup trucks: one orange, two black, and one white.

"The victims had enough presence of mind to drive into the Kota Kinabalu police station for help, forcing the attackers to change course and flee," he added.

Police believe the case could be related to a cable theft on Friday (Sept 19).

ACP Kasim said a manhunt is being conducted as part of an investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for mischief resulting in property damage.

"We are taking this matter seriously and will ensure that stern action is taken against the offenders," he added.

He urged anyone with information on the case to go to the nearest police station.
