Budi95: Preparations underway at petrol stations nationwide to implement targeted subsidy

PETALING JAYA: Preparations are underway at all petrol stations nationwide to implement the targeted RON95 subsidy under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme though it may differ from brand to brand, says Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz.

The Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) president said that the reduction of RON95 petrol price to RM1.99 per litre for everyone with MyKad and a valid driving licence, if implemented on its own, was not an issue as fuel prices have been adjusted weekly in the past without difficulty.

"When the system is launched, there may understandably be some initial challenges.

"However, the targeted subsidy mechanism for RON95, which involves verification of eligible customers, is a separate and more complex matter," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 22).

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysians will enjoy 300l of subsidised RON95 per month.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the 300l monthly eligibility ceiling will not apply to e-hailing drivers, who will enjoy the RM1.99 per litre rate at all times.

The price of RON95 petrol has been reduced to RM1.99 per litre, from RM2.05 per litre, effective Sept 30, through targeted subsidies under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme.

The good news was announced by Anwar on Monday (Sept 22) at his monthly meeting with staff of the Prime Minister's Department.

PDAM, said Khairul Annuar, also appealed to the public for understanding and cooperation during this transition period.

"Our dealers and their staff will do their best to assist, and we hope there will be hotlines by the government available for the public.

"We sincerely hope that the public will work with us constructively and avoid any unruly situations at petrol stations," he said.

He also thanked the Finance Ministry for engaging with PDAM and taking into account the concerns raised by it in preparing for the upcoming changes.

"We hope these matters will be fully addressed before the launch, and we will continue to work closely with the authorities to ensure a smooth implementation," he said.
