Two men arrested, 100 Boer goats seized in anti-smuggling operation

IPOH: Two men were arrested and 100 Boer goats were seized during Ops Bersepadu Khazanah in Gerik.

The joint enforcement operation was carried out by the General Operations Force’s (GOF) 18th Battalion, with assistance from the Perak Veterinary Department’s Taiping branch and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Gerik district police.

Northern Brigade GOF commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said that the operations team had initially identified a smuggling operation bringing in animals from Thailand and selling them illegally on the local market over the past three months.

“The 18th Battalion Intelligence Branch then successfully tracked down a white lorry suspected of carrying a shipment of goats from Thailand, which was on its way north.

“A check of the lorry found 100 Boer goats, and the animals and vehicles were seized with a total value of RM260,000,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 20).

SAC Shahrum added that during the operation, two locals, aged 28 and 41, were also detained.

He said the operation began at about 4.30pm on Friday (Sept 19) and ended at 5am the next day.
