Malaysia to host landmark Asean business summit in October

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will play host to the inaugural Asean Chinese Business Leaders Summit 2025, a landmark gathering that will, for the first time, unite entrepreneurs and chamber leaders from all 10 Asean member countries under one roof.

The two-day summit, organised by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), will be held on Oct 6 and 7 at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The event is expected to draw about 600 participants, including 200 from abroad, with discussions centred on emerging economic trends, cross-border collaboration and opportunities to expand regional trade and investment.

Delegates from Timor-Leste, the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong are also expected to attend.

ACCCIM president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng said the summit came at a pivotal moment as Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship is drawing to a close.

“As Malaysia’s Asean Chairmanship in 2025 draws to a close, this summit provides a timely opportunity to consolidate Asean’s collective voice. It allows us to build on the progress achieved, strengthen collaboration among Chinese entrepreneurs, and inject fresh momentum into the region’s future growth,” he said.

Ng stressed that Chinese entrepreneurs must adopt innovative and forward-looking strategies to drive industrial transformation and ensure sustainable growth in the face of shifting geopolitical dynamics.

UOB Malaysia chief executive officer Ng Wei Wei said the event marked the first milestone since the bank signed a memorandum of understanding with ACCCIM and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry earlier this year.

“UOB is committed to leveraging our extensive Asean network to facilitate greater cross-border trade, investment and collaboration among entrepreneurs across the region. We aim to connect businesses to opportunities and advance Asean’s collective growth,” she said.

Key highlights include business matching sessions across industries such as automotive, consumer goods, food and agriculture, healthcare, and information technology. Asean Business Forum dialogues will also explore strategies to navigate global uncertainties and chart the future of business succession and innovation.

The summit will culminate with the Asean Pinnacle Night, a gala dinner celebrating entrepreneurs from each member country for their contributions to national and regional growth. Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul will attend as the guest of honour, while Transport Minister Anthony Loke will officiate at the Asean Business Forum.

Organised by ACCCIM with UOB Malaysia as the Main Sponsor and Strategic Partner, this Summit marks the first major collaborative initiative following the signing of a MOU between ACCCIM, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) and UOB in January.
