Bukit Aman working with Myanmar cops after raid on drug network with Malaysian links

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is waiting for Myanmar authorities to provide details on its takedown of a syndicate responsible for smuggling large quantities of drugs into Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

The Inspector-General of Police said at a press conference at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Wednesday (Sept 17) that they were collaborating with their Myanmar counterparts as the investigation continues.

Bukit Aman is investigating links between local syndicates and the international drug network operating out of Myanmar following a series of major raids in the country.

Myanmar media reported that its police anti-narcotics unit crippled a syndicate trafficking drugs to Malaysia after a raid in Yangon's Shwepyitha township on Sept 5.

Six suspects were arrested and police uncovered 1,840kg of methamphetamine, four million stimulant pills and 14kg of heroin hidden in a warehouse.

Authorities said the drugs were sourced from Shan State and were destined for Malaysia.
