Sabah polls: Delegate proposes state PAS commissioner as CM if Perikatan wins

ALOR SETAR: Sabah PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan should be Perikatan Nasional's Chief Minister pick if the coalition wins the upcoming Sabah state election, says a muktamar delegate.

Mohamed Sukri Omar of Shah Alam said that as a respected scholar and a leader of integrity, Aliakbar can guide Perikatan to victory in Sabah.

"It is crucial that Perikatan takes the lead and secures victory there.

"From the resurgence in Sabah, we will build momentum across the states, until the next general election, when Perikatan Nasional captures Putrajaya," he said when debating a motion on the empowerment of Perikatan at the 71st PAS Muktamar here on Tuesday (Sept 16)

Dr Aliakbar is the party's sole nominated assemblyman in Sabah.

PAS became part of the state government following the 2020 snap election, when Perikatan aligned with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Barisan Nasional to form the state administration after defeating Parti Warisan.

In 2022, following the 15th General Election, Perikatan became the federal Opposition.

Its position in Sabah shifted after Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and several state leaders left Bersatu.

The current term of the state legislative assembly expires on Nov 11.
