Sabah JKR: 122 natural disaster incidents reported in eight days


KOTA KINABALU: A total of 122 natural disaster-related incidents were reported throughout the state between Sept 8 and 15, says the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR).

According to Sabah JKR, as of 2pm on Monday (Sept 15), the Penampang district recorded the highest number with 36 incidents.

The incidents recorded in Penampang include road and slope collapses, damaged bridges, as well as flash, seasonal floods and mud floods.

Of the total, slope collapses remained the most frequent disaster with 45 cases, followed by 33 cases of flash floods, 31 cases of seasonal floods, 10 cases of road collapses, two bridge collapses and one case of mud floods.

Apart from Penampang, other districts that recorded high incidents were Kota Kinabalu (27 cases) and Beaufort (25 cases).

This is followed by Putatan (8 cases), Papar (9 cases) and other districts including Sipitang, Tambunan, Tawau and Tuaran, which recorded one to two incidents.

The Sabah JKR assured that it was closely monitoring and taking immediate restoration work to ensure the safety of road users is guaranteed, especially in high-risk areas due to the un-abating rainfall.
