Teacher killed in Kangar road crash

KANGAR: A religious school teacher in Perlis was killed when her car was involved in an accident with a lorry at the Dato’ Ali Jalan Kangar-Alor Setar traffic light intersection here early Saturday (Sept 13) morning.

Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the victim, Nurhanim Rabia’an, 28, died at the scene after sustaining serious head injuries in the accident that occurred at 2.30am.

The accident is believed to have happened when the lorry, driven by the 23-year-old man from Alor Setar heading towards Kangar via the Alor Setar-Kangar Road, had brake problems.

While trying to stop at a red traffic light, the lorry collided with the car driven by the victim from Jalan Dato' Ali heading towards Kangar Jaya.

"The lorry driver, who sustained injuries to his knee and elbows, was sent to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar for treatment, while the driver of the car was confirmed dead at the scene," he said in a statement on Saturday.

ACP Yusharifuddin said the body of the teacher was taken to HTF while the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
