KUALA LUMPUR: Three men have been detained in connection with the assault on Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendi Sulaiman during the eviction exercise in Kampung Sungai Baru here.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the suspects were detained following the incident yesterday morning.
“The OCPD is in good condition after receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital,” he said.
The IGP advised the people to remain calm and verify all information before taking any action.
“The most important thing is to preserve peace and safety. People should not act hastily based on unverified claims,” he told reporters after officiating the closing of the 6th National Forensic Science Symposium for Law Enforcement yesterday.
The eviction in Kampung Sungai Baru, he added, was based on a court order.
“All actions were carried out strictly in accordance with the law.”
He acknowledged that some groups may feel unhappy with the decision, but gave assurance that security in Kampung Sungai Baru and Kuala Lumpur as a whole remains stable.
“I believe the situation is well under control,” he said.
On another matter, the IGP said the police are awaiting information from their Indonesian counterparts about the owner of a phone number linked to a threat made against a PETRONAS officer concerning the security of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Bintulu.
He said investigations showed that the number used to send the threatening text message was in a neighbouring country.
“We have already contacted the Indonesian police and are waiting for information from them,” he said.
On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the threat was sent via text message from a phone number registered in Indonesia.
Following the incident, the National Security Council directed all LNG facilities in Bintulu to tighten security measures.
