PETALING JAYA: The Star’s senior editor Gordon Kho has been selected as part of the international voting panel for the 83rd Golden Globe Awards.
He is the only Malaysian on the prestigious slate.
Kho joins a global roster of 400 entertainment journalists who will determine the winners of the awards, set to take place on Jan 11 in the United States.
“I am thrilled to be included in the voting panel for the upcoming Golden Globes and honoured to be the only Malaysian in the line-up.
“As a lifelong fan of pop culture, being part of an award that celebrates excellence in film, television and even podcasts is truly a privilege,” said Kho.
The voting body has been significantly expanded to include more international voices, ensuring a broader range of perspectives.
“We are excited to include Malaysia, joining the over 95 countries and regions covered by our voting body, into the Golden Globes.
“We look forward to the unique insights and perspectives all of our voters bring from around the world,” the executive vice-president of the Golden Globes, Tim Gray told The Star.
In a career spanning more than 25 years at The Star, Kho has written both feature and news-driven pieces on the Malaysian entertainment industry.
He began as an entertainment journalist with The Star’s fortnightly magazine Galaxie, later rising to editor, during which he travelled the world interviewing Hollywood stars and Asian heavyweights, from Jennifer Lopez to Jackie Chan.
Kho continued his journey in reporting with The Star’s Lifestyle section as entertainment editor, driving stories on major showbiz events both locally and internationally.
Now overseeing the entertainment section across print and digital, Kho leads his team in staying on top of breaking news.
He’s also part of The Star’s editorial team at Asia News Network, the leading regional alliance of news titles.
“We are so proud of Gordon, who is the only Malaysian journalist offered this important task,” said Star Media Group chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng.
“Gordon has certainly made a name for himself in the industry due to his years of experience doing what he does best.
“He has come to a stage where his opinion on the subject matter, matters.
“And it’s clear that the organisers are aware of this too!” Ng added.
The Golden Globes is among the most celebrated awards, honouring achievements in motion pictures, television and, beginning next year, podcasts.
US comedienne Nikki Glaser will return as host of the awards show, which will be held at The Beverly Hilton in California.
