Kota Baru nominated as World Craft City

KOTA BARU: Kota Baru was nominated as a World Craft City under the World Crafts Council (WCC) on Sunday (Sept 7).

The Malaysian Craft Council (MCC) described the nomination as a significant and historic achievement, opening opportunities for local crafts to gain recognition on the global stage.

"Although official recognition is still under evaluation by the WCC, the nomination itself already proves Kelantan’s rich craft heritage and the strong support of the local craft community.

"This nomination also marks an important step for MCC in preserving craft heritage while creating economic opportunities for the local community, particularly women and traditional textile artisans,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 9). — Bernama
