IPOH: A routine police patrol turned violent when a constable was shot and stabbed by a fleeing suspect, whose car was later found with a woman’s body inside.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said a team from the Simpang Pulai police station was on its crime prevention rounds when the personnel spotted a suspicious car in Taman Desa Pakatan around 1.15am yesterday.
He said when the team approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated, leading to a high-speed car chase.
When they reached an oil palm plantation, the suspect stopped the vehicle and fled on foot.
In a struggle with a policeman, the suspect snatched the police pistol and fired at the 26-year-old constable.
“He also stabbed the policeman before fleeing with the pistol,” Comm Noor Hisam said in a statement.
The policeman, who was shot in the abdomen, is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here.
Comm Noor Hisam said further inspection of the suspect’s vehicle led to the discovery of a woman’s body in the back seat.
The woman’s identity had yet to be determined, he said.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to establish her cause of death,” he added.
He said the case was being investigated under Sections 302/307 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm with intent to cause death or hurt.
Comm Noor Hisam said police are hunting for the suspect and urged those with information to contact investigating officer ASP Fadli Ahmad at 012-250 0019.
