Perak police nab six linked to cop-shooting suspect, dead body in car on Sunday

IPOH: Police have detained six people, including the relatives of a suspect who stabbed and shot a patrolman in Simpang Pulai on Sunday morning (Sept 7) and left a dead body in his vehicle before escaping.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said five men and one woman were arrested while the suspect remains at large.

The case is being investigated under Sections 302 and 307 of the Penal Code (for murder and attempted murder) and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.

"The suspects include family members of the main suspect. We are still investigating their roles in the case,” he said when contacted.

Noor Hisam confirmed that the deceased woman in the suspect’s multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) has been identified as a 62-year-old, with a post-mortem determining that she died of asphyxia-related causes.

He also clarified that the MPV used by the suspect was not stolen.

“We are still investigating the cause of the incident and the relationship between the suspects and the deceased.

“The main suspect, who stabbed and shot a policeman during the confrontation, remains at large,” he said.

A policeman was shot with his own gun and stabbed during a struggle with the suspect in Simpang Pulai in the 1.15am incident when a patrol team spotted a suspicious car in the Taman Desa Pakatan area.

They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect sped off, leading to a chase until the car stopped at an oil palm plantation, where the struggle with the suspect occurred.

The victim’s body was then found in the suspect's car after the suspect made his escape.
