Fleeing suspect shoots and stabs cop, abandons car with woman's body inside

IPOH: A policeman was shot with his own gun and also stabbed during a struggle with a suspect in Simpang Pulai early on Sunday (Sept 7) morning.

A woman's body was then found in the suspect's car, police said.

According to Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, the policeman is in stable condition and the case is being investigated for attempted murder, among other offences.

He said that in the 1.15am incident, a team from the Simpang Pulai station was on crime prevention patrol when they spotted a suspicious car in the Taman Desa Pakatan area.

They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect sped off, leading to a chase until the car stopped at an oil palm plantation.

“During the attempted arrest, a struggle ensued between the suspect and our team.

“In the incident, the 26-year-old Konstabel was shot in the abdomen by the suspect, who grabbed the policeman's gun during the struggle.

“The victim was also stabbed before the suspect escaped with the pistol," Comm Noor Hisam said in a statement.

He added that the policeman is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here.

Inspection of the suspect’s vehicle found the body of a woman, whose identity has yet to be determined, in the back seat.

“A post-mortem will be conducted at the hospital to establish her identity and cause of death.

“The case is being investigated under Sections 302 and 307 of the Penal Code (for murder and attempted murder) and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971,” Comm Noor Hisam added.

He said a manhunt is underway for the suspect, and anyone with information on the matter should come forward by contacting investigating officer Asst Supt Fadli Ahmad at 012-2500019.

He said police will not compromise with any party involved in such serious crimes, and efforts are being intensified to ensure that the suspect is arrested as soon as possible.
