Pathologist in Zara’s inquest receives online threats

KOTA KINABALU: Forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu has lodged a police report over alleged online threats against her.

Confirming this, Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the pathologist had lodged a police report on Friday.

He said the Queen Elizabeth Hospital director had informed Dr Hiu, who testified in the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, of the online threats following her two-day testimony.

“Investigation papers have been opened,” ACP Kasim said when contacted.

He said the police will work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in the investigation.

During her testimonies, the 58-year-old Dr Hiu had among others, used a mannequin to explain to the court the extent of the injuries found on Zara Qairina’s body.

Dr Hui, who has been with the Queen Elizabeth Forensic Medicine Department since 1998, told the court that Zara Qairina’s fall was not accidental nor was she pushed.

Counsel Hamid Ismail, who represents Zara Qairina’s mother Noraidah Lamat, urged the public to respect Dr Hiu, stating that insulting and belittling the pathologist’s expertise would not benefit anyone.
