Thunderstorm warning issued for nine states as well as KL


PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across several regions in Malaysia, with warnings in effect until noon on Thursday (Sept 4).

In a post on its social media accounts, the Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said that nine states along with Kuala Lumpur were affected.

In Perlis, the entire state is on alert for severe weather.

In Kedah, areas including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Yan, Kuala Muda, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu are expected to be affected.

Pulau Pinang is also under the warning.

In Perak, districts such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

In Selangor, areas including Sabak Bernam and Hulu Langat are on alert, as well as Kuala Lumpur.

In Negeri Sembilan, districts such as Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, and Tampin are expected to experience severe weather.

The warning also extends to the entirety of Melaka.

In Johor, regions including Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, and Pontian are under the warning.

In Sarawak, areas such as Sri Aman, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu, and Dalat), and Kapit (Song) are expected to face severe weather.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
