Badminton coach denies sexually assaulting boy

SEREMBAN: A badminton coach has claimed trial to three counts of committing physical sexual assault on a 12-year-old boy.

Ahmad Subhi Suhaimi pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before Sessions Court judge Surita Budin yesterday.

In the first charge, the accused was said to have committed the offence against the victim in a car at around 3.30pm in May this year in Nilai.

For the second charge, he allegedly carried out the same act at around 5pm on July 8 at a house in Nilai.

The accused was also alleged to have committed a similar offence in a school badminton hall at around 11.55am on Aug 5.

Ahmad Subhi, 29, who is a bachelor, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same Act.

Section 14(a) provides a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping while Section 16(1) carries a jail term of up to five years and whipping of not less than two times.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni offered bail of RM30,000 with one surety for each charge.

Other conditions include for the accused not to contact the victim or witnesses, to report at the nearest police station once a month until the case is disposed of and to surrender his passport to the court.

The accused’s father then pleaded for a lower bail, adding that he would make sure his son appears in court.

Surita then set bail at RM10,000 for each charge and allowed the other conditions set by the prosecution.

She fixed Oct 6 for next mention and told the accused to appoint a lawyer.
