Cops nab man over alleged abuse of three-year-old stepson in Seremban

SEREMBAN: Police have detained a 24-year-old man for allegedly abusing his three-year-old stepson.

District OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Yatim Osman said the suspect was arrested following a police report lodged by the victim's mother around 8.30pm on Saturday (June 13).

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened in the car at a petrol station along Jalan Seremban-Jelebu.

"A further probe also revealed that the suspect often hit the victim when at home which caused him injuries," he said in a statement.

ACP Mohd Yatim said the victim also had bruises on the front and back of his body believed to have been caused by pinching.

The victim has been admitted for treatment at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital.

ACP Mohd Yatim said the suspect and the victim's mother got married in April.

"The suspect does not have any past criminal record and a urine test also came back negative for substance abuse," he said.

Police, he said, have obtained an order to remand the suspect for seven days until June 20.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
