Johor technician wins RM73.1mil jackpot

KUALA LUMPUR: A 53-year-old technician from Johor walked away a multimillionaire, winning RM73.1mil from the total RM78.5mil Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot.

In a statement from STM Lottery, it was said the man, who works in Singapore, arrived at the STM Lottery head office in Kuala Lumpur with his wife and children to claim his share of RM73.1mil on Aug 20.

The man, who usually plays Toto 4D and Toto 6D games, decided to try his luck on the Supreme Toto 6/58 game after overhearing another player buying a Lucky Pick ticket at a Toto outlet.

"I did not go for the Lucky Pick tickets but I combined the birthdates of my family members - 3, 6, 9, 12, 27, and 34 - and they turned out to be the winning combination.

"I could not believe my eyes when I saw all six numbers matched.

"I was completely stunned.

"That night I could not sleep at all.

"I kept thinking this is truly an answered prayer for me and my family," he said.

The winner said he intends to use his windfall totaling RM73,125,073.90 wisely.

"The first thing I want to do is settle my housing loan and clear my financial commitments.

"The rest will be saved for my children’s future," he said.

The remainder of the jackpot was won by two EZ-Bet winners from Selangor who shared jackpots amounting to RM2.1mil and RM3.3mil respectively.

All three winners coincidentally used family-related numbers as their lucky picks.

On Aug 24, another lucky winner from Johor struck the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 totaling RM10.7mil.

The 88-year-old retired teacher said his pair of winning numbers – "2588 and 8453" – was inspired by his age, his wife’s age, and their house number, which he had been faithfully betting on for many years.

He was at home with his wife when he checked the results and spotted the familiar numbers emerging as the winning numbers.

"At first I panicked and worried that I might have forgotten to place the bet.

"When I found the ticket and confirmed it, I was so relieved and overjoyed," he said.

This was not his first stroke of luck.

He revealed that he had previously won several hundred thousand ringgit from Sports Toto games.

He now intends to share the winnings of RM10,662,034.95 with his family and donate a portion to charity.
