PAS' Hafez Sabri apologises over post on security incident involving royalty

PETALING JAYA: Manjoi assemblyman Hafez Sabri has apologised for his social media post over a security breach involving the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, claiming it has been manipulated by irresponsible parties.

In a Facebook post on Monday (Sept 1), Hafez said that he misidentified the race of the woman who rushed towards His Majesty during a recent National Day event based on information he received.

He said that upon learning his error, he corrected himself just minutes after he made the post. However, he said that irresponsible parties had taken screenshots of his original post and circulated them, claiming he had turned the incident into a racial issue.

"I apologise for the mistake I made. I am only human," he wrote.

Hafez said he had lodged a police report over the spread of screenshots of his post.

On Sunday (Aug 31), police dismissed claims circulating on Facebook regarding the race of a woman who was arrested over the incident during the Perak-level National Day celebrations.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the police have initiated investigations into the case.
