JOHOR BARU: Stay away from windows, glass and heavy objects if you’re indoors during a tremor, says Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad.

“Look for sturdy furniture and get under it,” he said.

For those who are out in the open, he said they should move away from buildings, trees and power lines.

As for people who are driving at that moment, they should stop at a safe place and avoid bridges and overpass, he added.

Yesterday, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake was detected in Segamat at 4.24am.

This was the fifth tremor to hit Johor in six days.

Four of these cases took place in Segamat and one in Yong Peng.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said there had been no reports of injuries.

However, it would be good for those in buildings to evacuate and move to open space, he said.

“Once they feel the danger is over, they could check the premises. So far, we have not received any reports of injuries related to the earthquake, but we are monitoring the situation closely,” he said.
