IPOH: Some RM26.14mil worth of items, including drugs and ketum liquid, will be disposed of by the police.

Perak deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the items were seized from 5,483 cases concluded in court between 2012 and 2024.

As for the drugs, he said they were seized between January and Aug 24 this year.

“Syabu, ketamine and heroin were the most common drugs seized,” he said during a disposal ceremony at the state police headquarters yesterday.

He said 13,997 suspects were arrested in connection with the drug offences.

Of this number, 1,918 were drug distributors, an increase of 11% compared with 1,727 over the same period last year.

“A total of 351 suspects were arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while 51 were detained under the Special Preventive Measures 1985 as they were believed to be masterminds, planners or financiers behind syndicates busted this year,” he added.

SAC Mohammad Azlin also said 4,816 people were arrested for drug possession, marking a 13% rise from 4,257 last year, while 7,212 individuals tested positive for drugs in urine tests, a decrease of 8%.

He said the value of the drugs seized amounted to RM15.7mil.

Some 4,827 investigation papers were opened under the Dangerous Drugs Act and the Poisons Act, of which 4,714 were successfully prosecuted, reflecting a 98% charge rate, he said, adding that assets belonging to drug traffickers such as houses, land, jewellery and vehicles worth RM6.3mil were also seized.
