GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested two men and seized various types of drugs, worth RM271,400, in a raid on a house here on Monday (April 13).
Northeast deputy OCPD Supt Lee Swee Sake said the raid at 7.30pm was conducted by a team of officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) of the Northeast district headquarters, based on information and intelligence.
"The inspection at the residence found a brown box containing 99 plastic packets with a powder suspected to be MDMA weighing approximately 1.77kg.
"Also found was one plastic packet suspected to contain ketamine, four packets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, and one cigarette containing tobacco and a mixture of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 15).
Lee said that an MPV, worth approximately RM35,000, was also seized, with the total drug seizure and asset confiscation estimated at RM306,400.
He said intelligence findings revealed the suspects had been actively involved in drug distribution activities since February to meet the local market demand, and the total amount of seized drugs could be used by 974 addicts.
He also said that both suspects tested positive for drugs such as methamphetamine, amphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), while a record check revealed that the first suspect had eight past records related to drugs, while the other had two past records for the same offence.
Lee added that both suspects, aged 39 and 66, were remanded for seven days until April 20 for further investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
