Two Thai nationals killed, four hurt in Pontian house fire


PONTIAN: A fire that broke out in a house here killed two people and left four others injured.

Pontian OCPD Supt Shofee Tayib said all the victims were Thai nationals who worked as cooks.

“The deceased, aged 27 and 31, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 30-year-old victim was severely injured while three others, aged 39 to 48, sustained minor injuries in the fire which occurred at around 11am on Wednesday (Aug 27),” he said in a statement.

Supt Shofee added that the house, which had seven residents, was provided as staff accommodation by the victims’ employer.

He added that the case has been classified as a sudden death report pending results of the post-mortem.

According to Pontian Baru fire station operations commander Mohd Nazri Ahmad Shahidon, the seventh occupant of the house was unhurt.

“The deceased victims suffered 80% and 95% burns.

“One of them was found near the window of a bedroom while the other was found under collapsed roof debris,” he added.
