Johor polls: Pontian cops get three reports on vandalism of campaign materials


PONTIAN: The Pontian police district headquarters received three reports regarding acts of vandalism involving the spray-painting and tearing of political party signboards.

Pontian OCPD Supt Hadzrat Hussien Mohd Hussain said the reports were lodged on Sunday (July 5) between 7.11am and 4.38pm.

He added that two reports were received from Kukup and there was one from Benut.

“Following the incidents, we dispatched our Criminal Investigation Division to conduct further inspections at the reported locations," he said in a statement.

Supt Hadzrat Hussien said preliminary investigations revealed no CCTV footage, nor were any traces of paints or tools used to commit the vandalism found at the scenes.

He said the cases are being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code (Act 574.

Supt Hadzrat Hussien said if convicted, offenders face a prison sentence of not less than one year and up to a maximum of five years, a fine, or both.

“We will not compromise on any individual or group involved in property vandalism, and firm and decisive action will be taken against any party involved, in accordance with prevailing laws," he said.
