COFFEE shops in Segamat, Johor, experienced an unusually large crowd after a 4.1-magnitude earthquake jolted local residents and prompted them to share their experiences, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Huang Zhi Kai, proprietor of a dim sum restaurant in Kampung Baru Tengah, said his shop was fully occupied an hour earlier than usual, with customers starting to arrive around 8.30am on Sunday.

Most customers told him the tremor had startled them from their sleep around 6am. As a result, Huang said his business rose more than 25% compared to a normal Sunday.

When the earthquake occurred, Huang and his staff were in the kitchen. They heard a loud bang, felt the shop shaking and quickly exited to check the situation, relieved no one was injured

Kopitiam operator Lin You Yong said that his shop was packed at 7.30am for the same reason.

> A dog was banned from Pet Fair Asia in Shanghai for being deemed a “bad influence” after it was spotted with a full-body tattoo and adorned with thick gold chains, reported China Press.

Videos and photos from the fair showed a Mexican hairless dog at one of the booths covered in a large tattoo depicting a green dragon and a white tiger, two of China’s Four Auspicious Beasts.

This sparked widespread criticism, with many netizens calling the tattooing “animal abuse.” One netizen wrote, “The tattoos mean nothing to the dog! My heart breaks for the dog!”

The fair organisers barred the dog and its owner to prevent “bad influence”.

The tattoo artist behind the work said the dog owner contacted him last year, saying the dog “was like his child” and he wanted his pet to “look cool”. The artist claimed a vet administered aesthetics to the dog beforehand to minimise pain.

Following the uproar, the tattoo artist later apologised.
