KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor MCA has set up a war room to prepare strategies for the next general election (GE), says its chairman Datuk Lawrence Low.
He said the focus would be on standing up for the people, defending their rights and serving with sincerity, adding that members must engage directly with communities to better understand their needs and grievances.
“We adopt the principle of ‘going out, staying grounded’, reaching out to temples, non-governmental organisations, hawker groups and residents’ associations.
“Only by stepping into their circles and listening to their stories can we do the right things and speak up for them,” he added.
Low said Selangor MCA was at a crucial turning point, witnessing countless political upheavals and repeated policy injustices.
Noting that the people had been burdened with a string of issues — from the sales and service tax expansion to subsidy cuts; higher utility rates for businesses to e-invoicing — he said grievances on the ground were growing.
“Many people are dissatisfied with government policies, particularly the Chinese community, who have been asking who can solve their problems, speak up and stand up for them.
“But let me remind you, just because the people are angry at the other side, it does not mean votes will automatically come to MCA.
“We must strengthen ourselves, show our strength and become the third and better choice for the people. Win trust with sincerity, win votes with strength,” he said.
Low expressed confidence that Selangor MCA could achieve its target of recruiting 3,000 new members before the GE, adding that hundreds of new members had already signed up.
