Two men plead not guilty to robbery charges


SHAH ALAM: Two men have pleaded not guilty to two charges of robbery in Kuala Selangor.

Muhammad Taufiq Haiqal Edi Fazlee, 22, and Muhammad Ezkil Mohamad Nor, 29, entered their plea before Sessions Court judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammad Redza yesterday.

For the first charge, they were accused of jointly committing a group robbery against a local man involving RM700 at a seafood outlet in Pasir Penambang at 5.30am on Aug 5.

They were also charged with committing a similar offence against a local woman involving RM600 at a retail shop in Tanjong Karang at 6.45am the next day.

The charges under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and caning, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Azamuddin Razak offered bail of RM15,000 for each accused, with the additional condition of reporting to the nearest police station every month, Bernama reported.

The court set bail at RM10,000 for the first charge and RM8,000 for the second.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Taufiq also pleaded not guilty before magistrate Mohamad Ibrahim Muhammad Ghulam to a separate charge of stealing a woman’s handbag at a shop in Bukit Rotan on July 31, together with Abdul Hanif Abdul Rahim, 27.

The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

DPP Mohamad Nor Hakimi Mohamad Rosedin offered bail of RM8,000 with the condition that the accused report to the police station every month.

The court allowed RM3,000 bail in one surety for each accused.

Both cases have been set for mention on Sept 30.
