Do not be afraid to show your patriotism, says Masidi

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans should not be afraid to display their patriotism just because of isolated incidents of the Jalur Gemilang being flown upside down, says Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He said mistakes in handling the national flag are often unintentional.

“Humans are not perfect. Sometimes we make mistakes. Unless it was intentional, we should not make a big fuss about it. If mistakes happen, guide them on how to do it properly,” he told reporters on Friday (Aug 22) after announcing the scores of programmes ahead of the National Day and Sabah Day at the end of this month.

Masidi urged the public not to diminish their patriotism, especially with National Day just around the corner.

“Sabahans should continue raising the flag proudly. Don’t be afraid. What is important is that we come together to show our love for the country,” he said.

Masidi, who also chairs the main committee for Malaysia Day and Sabah Day, acknowledged there may be a trend of some people hesitating to fly the Jalur Gemilang

“My advice is simple … continue to raise the flag, proudly and sincerely. Don’t be afraid. This country has gone through many challenges, and showing love for the nation is something we can all do together,” he said.
