GOF seizes unregistered chemicals worth RM90,200 in Padang Besar

PADANG BESAR: The General Operations Force (GOF) has arrested a man and seized unregistered chemical products worth RM90,200 during Ops Taring on Monday (Aug 18).

GOF Northern Brigade Commander Senior Asst Comm Shahrum Hashim said the 27-year-old local was arrested at a border roadblock near KM27 Padang Besar at about 2 pm.

"During the operation, a suspicious van was stopped at the roadblock," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 19).

SAC Shahrum said checks found the van driven by the suspect contained chemical products believed to be unregistered with the Agriculture Department.

Among the seized items were 150 products containing plant hormone chemicals, 400 products containing latex-stimulating chemicals, and the van itself.

He said the suspect committed an offence under the Pesticides Act 1974 for possessing products with unregistered chemical substances.

The Northern Brigade of the GOF is intensifying monitoring and inspections at border roadblocks in Perak, Kedah, and Perlis to curb illegal activities.

"The brigade reaffirms its commitment to consistent enforcement and will not compromise in upholding the law," he said.

He added that the public is urged to act as the "eyes and ears" of the authorities by providing information on unlawful activities.
