Shop assistant remanded for allegedly molesting stepdaughter

MELAKA: A 41-year-old shop assistant has been remanded for five days at the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here for allegedly outraging the modesty of his teenage stepdaughter at her home.

The remand order until next Monday (Aug 18) was issued by magistrate N. Sivashangari on Thursday to assist investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to a source, the incident occurred on May 30 when the suspect had a disagreement with the victim’s mother at their home in Duyong here.

The suspect is alleged to have behaved inappropriately with the 15-year-old victim while pretending to console her afterwards.

On June 10, the suspect also allegedly sent a message to his stepdaughter that made her uncomfortable.

The suspect had allegedly displayed inappropriate behaviour towards the victim numerous times before she informed her mother about it.

The victim, accompanied by her mother, lodged a police report at the Kandang police station on Tuesday before police arrested the suspect on Wednesday.
