MPs from both sides condemn attack on Rafizi's son

KUALA LUMPUR: MPs from both sides of the divide are condemning the recent attack against the family of fellow lawmaker Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli (PH-Pandan).

Led by Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson), over a dozen PKR MPs gave a joint press conference calling the attack on their fellow PKR member’s family an act of cowardice to intimidate a lawmaker into silence.

“This is not just an attempt to instil fear but one of unprecedented violence that defies all human conscience.

“We support the Prime Minister’s stance that the law must be applied firmly and without compromise, especially for such cases of unprovoked violence.

“Anyone found guilty must face the full consequences,” said the PKR vice-president at a press conference in Parliament on Thursday (Aug 14).

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) similarly led a group of PN MPs in condemning the attack on Rafizi’s son, pledging to provide cross-party cooperation to safeguard Rafizi and his family.

“This is not a matter of whether we see eye to eye, but about pursuing justice for the victims, regardless of whether we like each other or not.

“I want to be clear — the opposition stands with the government in ensuring Rafizi’s safety.

“We hope the government will take all the necessary actions so such incidents never happen again to any of us,” he said during a press conference at Parliament on Thursday (Aug 14).

Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was jabbed with a syringe by unknown assailants at a mall carpark on Wednesday (Aug 13), followed by threatening messages sent to his wife merely 12 hours later.
