Beware fake PETRONAS news on scam site impersonating The Star

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd, which publishes The Star print products and online portal, refers to a scam site misusing The Star's brand identity.

It has come to the group’s attention that a fraudulent site is impersonating The Star with a knock-off article.

A fake article headlined “EXCLUSIVE OFFER FOR MALAYSIANS FROM PETRONAS" and featuring a doctored image of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, was sighted recently.

The Star is not associated with the doctored site, nor the sham report, in any way or form.

It is believed that the perpetrators are running clickbait ads on social media to lure people into accessing the lookalike site and scam article.

If you come across such suspicious ads impersonating The Star or any other brands, please report the post to the platform you viewed it on.

This will alert moderators to fraudsters who violate community guidelines by impersonating The Star’s online presence on the social media platforms, and help ensure a safer online environment for all.
