KL cops hope to use convenience store chain outlets as 'safety points' for crime prevention

KUALA LUMPUR: A proposal has been sent to Bukit Aman to designate KK Mart outlets as safety points for the public to aid crime prevention, according to city police.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus, when met at the launch of the first KK Mart outlet inside a police building at the contingent headquarters here on Tuesday (Sept 15), said that there were around 700 outlets in the Klang Valley alone.

"These outlets are also equipped with clear CCTV cameras that can aid us.

"We look forward to this proposal progressing, so that the public can have more safety point areas.

"The CCTV cameras are controlled at a central location. It will also benefit us if, in the future, we could mirror this footage directly to contingent headquarters," he said.

He added that increased patrols will also be conducted around the outlets to aid crime prevention efforts.

"I consider this a good partnership between us and the private sector.

"Not only does it aid the public, it also enables more systematic and organised surveillance," he said.
