MELAKA: A 33-year-old mechanic has claimed trial to a charge of abducting a married woman from her husband at the Malim police station.
Lim Jun Wei pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin in Ayer Keroh on Tuesday (Sept 15).
He is accused of abducting the 33-year-old woman while she was in a car at the police station at about 1.30pm on Sept 1.
The charge was framed under Section 363 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.
It is understood that the woman was waiting in the car while her husband was lodging a police report on a separate matter.
The accused allegedly got into the car and sped out of the police station, prompting the woman to scream for help.
He later stopped at a traffic light, and passers-by came to the woman's aid.
Deputy public prosecutor Syauqi Mardia Baharudin proposed bail of RM7,000 with one surety.
he court granted bail of RM5,000 with one surety and fixed Oct 22 for next mention.
