Johor is first state to implement mobile app to distribute subsidised cooking oil

JOHOR BARU: Johor has become the first state to implement the government’s mobile application to distribute subsidised cooking oil, says Lee Ting Han.

The state investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman said the cooking oil price stabilisation scheme (eCOSS) system has rolled out in 29 supermarket locations here.

“The pilot project which began during the Jualan Rahmah Madani Programme is now being expanded to supermarkets statewide.

“The eCOSS application records every transaction involving 1kg subsidised cooking oil packets to ensure the cooking oil is distributed to the right place,” he said during a press conference here.

Lee shared that the eCOSS application is efficient in ensuring the allocation is not misused and reaches its intended recipients.

“The system records every transaction involving 1kg subsidised cooking oil packets, starting from the factory, to packers, wholesalers, retailers and finally to consumers, enabling tighter supervision of the subsidy supply chain.

“Each month, Johor receives 3.3mil packets of 1kg subsidised cooking oil. With each packet subsidised at RM5, it certainly is not a small amount,” he added.

Lee also said Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry officers will be assisting the public in adapting to the system.

“To ensure smooth implementation, officers will be stationed at sales counters in all 29 locations for five days starting Aug 11 till Aug 15.

“They will assist consumers with registration and conduct 'train the trainers' sessions for the staff so that the process is understood and runs efficiently,” he added.

Lee added that the state government is committed to ensuring the implementation brings optimum benefits to the rakyat.
