Zara Qairina's body to be exhumed as soon as possible, says Home Minister


PETALING JAYA: Zara Qairina Mahathir's remains will be exhumed as soon as possible to complete the probe into her death, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said the police had been ordered to do so to help complete their investigation, according to Sinar Harian.

"As I stated last week, police had sent their investigation paper to the Attorney General and a few days later, were ordered to exhume the remains.

"This morning, I was briefed by the Inspector-General of Police that they were working with the Magistrate and forensic experts to carry it out as soon as possible," he said to a press conference on Saturday (Aug 9).

Saifuddin Nasution was attending the “Ijtima Madani Ulama dan Guru Pondok Kelantan” or gathering of Islamic religious scholars and pondok teachers in UiTM Machang, which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Home Minister the priority was to deliver justice to Zara Qairina, her friends and family.

"The police have guaranteed that this process will be conducted urgently and transparently," he said.
