Zara’s death probe papers returned to police


PUTRAJAYA: Preliminary investigation papers on the death of student Zara Qairina Mahathir have been handed back to police.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the papers were returned on Tuesday and that any decision on the case, whether to carry out a prosecution or an inquest, would be decided after the investigation was completed.

“We have returned all the papers to the police with specific instructions.

“There are several matters that we need to compile again,” he said when met by reporters yesterday.

“There are several issues. We shall wait until the investigation is completed first,” he said.

Zara Qairina, a Form One student, was believed to have fallen from the third floor of her hostel in SMA Tun Datu Mustafa in Papar on July 16.

She died in the hospital on the following day.

Her death has led to various speculations, including allegations of bullying.
