Police to further investigate Zara Qairina's death, says AG

PUTRAJAYA: The preliminary investigation paper on the death of student Zara Qairina Mahathir has been handed back to the police.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the paper was returned on Tuesday (Aug 5) and any decision on the case – whether to carry out a prosecution or an inquest – would be made after the investigation is completed.

"We returned all the papers to the police. We have given specific instructions, which means there were several matters that we need to compile again," he said when met by the press at a ceremony in honour of the new Chief Justice here on Wednesday (Aug 6).

The AG, however, declined to comment on the instructions given to the police.

"I am unable to disclose that. There are several issues but I am not at liberty to say," he said.

Zara Qairina, a Form One student, is believed to have fallen from the third floor of a hostel in SMA Tun Datu Mustafa in Papar on July 16.

She died in the hospital a day after. Various claims surround her death, including allegations of bullying.
