Temerloh cops nab cable theft suspect with lengthy criminal record

KUANTAN: A man with 44 crime and drug-related offences on his record has been arrested in Temerloh following a scuffle with police.

Temerloh OCPD Asst Comm Mazlan Hassan said the 35-year-old man had sped off in a four-wheel-drive vehicle when police personnel identified themselves to him in front of a shop on Jalan Tengku Ismail at about 10.30am on Monday (Aug 4).

"The man sped off and crashed at the side of the road, with his vehicle coming to a stop at the traffic light intersection.

"A scuffle ensued between our personnel and the suspect, who was arrested and tested positive for drugs,” he said in a statement.

He added that police also seized various types of tools believed to be meant for use in cable theft, including a hammer and a manhole cover opener, as well as a quantity of yaba pills.

Upon further investigation, the suspect admitted to being involved in communications cable theft cases in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Pahang in February. – Bernama
