KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan is working to avoid clashes among its partners Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the coming state election, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister, who is also Pakatan chairman said the aim was to secure an arrangement where there would be no three-cornered fights among partners.
“In the case it has to happen (a clash), our advice is that probably we (Pakatan) will try and refrain from entering such areas,” he told reporters after a meeting with Sabah PKR’s election preparation team.
The Sabah polls are due anytime before Nov 11.
However, Anwar admitted that avoiding clashes in all the 73 seats would be a difficult task.
“Of course, that (no clash) is a priority. But in politics, the odds are possible and sometimes, it is impossible,” he said.
Anwar said understanding among Pakatan, Barisan and GRS was vital and should be made a priority to avoid confusing voters.
“We have sent this message to all three parties and we intend to make sure it is necessary to secure this understanding; that is a priority,” he said.
On the strained relations between the three coalitions, which the opposition dubbed as a love triangle, he responded: “Love is pleasant. Sometimes there is hurt, that is what love is all about.”
Anwar, however, did not rule out a free-for-all in certain seats.
Last week, GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state coalition would work with Pakatan, but maintained that it was not ready to work with Sabah Barisan, which also has refused to work with them.
