KUALA LUMPUR: A former managing director of an oil and gas company claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a charge of abusing her position to appoint her husband into the company without approval.
Farah Sabryna Nasarudin, 46, was accused of abusing her position as the managing director of Asiapac Oil & Gas Sdn Bhd to appoint her husband Daniel Frederick Wall as a technical advisor without the approval or ratification from the company, and thus indirectly ordered for RM786,209.30 to be deposited into her bank account for the benefit of herself and her husband.
Farah Sabryna was accused of committing the offence at the company in Jalan Sentral, Brickfields, between Jan 27, 2021 and July 28, 2023.
The charge under Section 218(1)(d) of the Company Act 2016 is punishable under Section 218(2) of the same Act which carries a maximum five-year imprisonment or a fine of up to RM3mil or both, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shakila Mohd Shariff offered bail at RM30,000 in one surety.
Lawyer A. Narainasami, who represented the accused, sought for lower bail amount.
He said his client was supporting five children who were schooling and an ill mother.
Sessions Court judge Hamidah Mohamed Deril allowed bail at RM20,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 3 for mention.
