ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department has rescued 12 individuals, including five children, who were trapped due to strong currents in a river in an orchard in Changlun, near Kubang Pasu.
In a statement on Sunday (July 20), the Kedah department operations centre said it received a distress call at 8.24pm that victims were trapped in the orchard and unable to cross the river due to the strong river currents.
"Four families comprising two men, five women, two boys and five girls were found trapped on the other side of the river and unable to cross due to the strong currents.
"Firefighters used ropes to get all the victims to the other side safely as the river water was receding. All the victims did not suffer any injuries," it said.
The statement also said the operation, which involved seven members from the Bukit Kayu Hitam fire station and two fire engines, ended at 9.38pm. – Bernama
