KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad will be serving as the Kuala Lumpur police chief in an acting capacity.

Outgoing Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa handed over the reins in a ceremony at the KL police headquarters yesterday in a ceremony witnessed by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad.

In his speech, Comm Rusdi said it was a great honour to helm the KL police for a year and three months.

“The crime index for KL has shown a reduction of 28% or 1,151 cases between January and June this year, compared to the corresponding period last year.

“Violent crimes showed a reduction of 29%, while crimes involving belongings reduced by 27%. While it is a success, we must not rest on our laurels and always strive to improve,” he said.

Comm Rusdi said he was grateful for the cooperation shown by various parties during his tenure as KL police chief.

“I’m confident that DCP Mohamed Usuf will be able to lead KL police well,” he said.

Comm Rusdi will now head the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) as the new director.

Meanwhile, Comm Hamzah commended Comm Rusdi on his excellent leadership at the KL police contingent.

“His leadership has led to various successes and played a vital part in ensuring the safety of Kuala Lumpur.

“I am also confident DCP Mohamed Usuf will be able to lead KL police well, given his vast experience, credibility and knowledge,” he said.
