‘It is absolute madness’ says Saifuddin of video of baby being raped sold online

PUTRAJAYA: Video of a three-month-old baby being raped was distributed for sale, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister mentioned he was briefed about the heinous act at 12:30am recently.

"If you are briefed at midnight, then it is a major issue.

"The baby was raped. Not only that, the act was recorded on video and later sold (online). It is absolute madness," he said in his speech during the ministry's monthly assembly on Wednesday (July 16).

Saifuddin said plans are underway to strengthen the Bukit Aman CID Sexual, Women and Child Investigation division’s (D11) intelligence gathering and operational capabilities.

"This is a serious matter. Action must be taken to strengthen D11 further," he added.

During a press conference after the assembly, Saifuddin declined to elaborate on the matter further.

Commenting on the recent success of the police in dismantling a terrorist group responsible for raising funds and recruiting members to support the Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Bangladesh, Saifuddin said that the government would never allow the country to be used as a platform for recruiting or fundraising for terrorist activities.

"We will not compromise in any way when it comes to matters involving terrorism on home soil," he said.

"We were able to act effectively thanks to the strength of our intelligence capabilities. It shows that we are prepared to take firm action against such threats," he said.
