SEREMBAN: Aeon Co (M) Bhd will invest close to RM500mil to build a new four-storey extension to its Aeon Mall in Seremban 2 as part of its expansion plans here.
The project will make the Seremban 2 Aeon Mall its second biggest in the country upon its completion in 2027, with a combined total net lettable area of over 720,000 square feet.
Aeon Co chairman Datuk Iskandar Sarudin said the expansion is part of the group's commitment to meet the lifestyle and economic needs of Seremban's rapidly growing population.
"Our Seremban 2 mall, which was previously known as Jusco and opened in 2005, was our ninth mall then and today we already have 28 malls nationwide.
"We do not want people to only come to our malls to spend their money but we also want to ensure they are able to do so in a conducive environment for a good shopping experience," he said at the ground breaking ceremony by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Also present was AEON managing director Naoya Okada.
Iskandar said Aeon Co constantly upgraded its malls to compete in a changing retail landscape and offer unique retail experiences to customers.
The extended mall, he said, will be built on a 23-acre site adjacent to the existing mall and will have more than 2,000 parking lots, including for people with special needs.
There will also be 530 motorcycle parking lots as well as EV charging stations.
"We will have a modern design incorporating local cultures and will introduce brands and a layout with the shop-play-relax concept.
"There will also be a retail area with open-air elements as well as dedicated spaces for families to enjoy quality time," he said.
Apart from the Aeon supermarket, food and beverage services, pharmacy chains, and electrical goods outlets, the extension will also house international fashion, accessories and jewellery labels, a sports centre, cinema, and bowling alley.
Both buildings will be connected via an overhead pedestrian bridge, ensuring seamless access for shoppers.
In a statement, Aeon said it has continued to strengthen its retail footprint with the opening of its 35th store in Setia Alam last year, alongside the opening of Aeon Wellness and Daiso at Bloomsvale Shopping Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
Aeon MaxValu Desa ParkCity and Aeon Bandar Puchong have also been upgraded to enhance customer experience and store offerings.
"This year, Aeon Mall Ipoh Station 18 was reopened with a refreshed look, reflecting Aeon’s ongoing commitment to revitalising its spaces.
Plans are also currently underway to rejuvenate several key malls, including Aeon Mall Shah Alam, Aeon Mall Bukit Indah, Aeon Mall Bandaraya Melaka, and Aeon Mall Kinta City," it added.
