SHAH ALAM: There were five underground streams at the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion site but no water from any of them was running into a monsoon drain there.
During the state assembly sitting on Wednesday (July 9), Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this was based on records from the Mineral and Geosciences Department.
Amirudin was answering questions by members of the house based on the findings tabled in a special motion on Tuesday (July 8).
He said another factor that could be investigated was the ground mooring process carried out at the site by the area’s previous developer.
“This is something that I think can be checked by the committee, which could lead to those responsible,’’ said Amirudin.
He was referring to the special committee established to investigate the blast, which would include the Occupational Safety and Health Department, the Mineral and Geosciences Department, local councils, PETRONAS, as well as up to seven experts.
He added that this was because the ground condition was mainly responsible for the movement of the gas pipeline and the eventual explosion.
In response to the Opposition’s call for the government to issue a white paper regarding the tragedy, Amirudin stated that there was no need for this as a special committee had already been established to examine the report.
“We can review the special committee’s findings and discuss them,’’ said Amirudin.
He added that once the special committee’s review of the investigation report is completed, the findings can be debated at the assembly.
Meanwhile, Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim told the house that the gas pipeline involved was built according to international safety standards, which also took soil stability factors into account.
“Geotechnical studies were also carried out,” he added.
