Johor to address hospital staff shortage

JOHOR BARU: The Johor government will raise the issue of a shortage of healthcare workers at three major hospitals in the state during an official meeting with the Health Ministry next Friday.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said this was based on reports from Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA), Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) and Hospital Pasir Gudang, which revealed that all three facilities were experiencing manpower shortages that had disrupted operations and placed an additional burden on existing staff.

“We take seriously the burden borne by healthcare workers, and it is time for the ministry to give the matter due attention.

“We will present the data on Friday and push for an immediate solution,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday, Bernama reported.

He said a virtual meeting was held on Saturday to coordinate follow-up action, involving State Health Department director Dr Mohtar Pungut, HSA director Dr Mohamad Nizam Subahir, HSI director Dr Zuraini Zainal and Hospital Pasir Gudang director Dr Suhaila Abu Hassan, along with several other senior officers.
