Penang CM, state leaders pay respects to Steven Sim's late grandfather

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow paid his last respects to Human Resources Minister Steven Sim's grandfather Yeoh Aik Guan, who passed away on Sunday (June 29).

Chow arrived at the Sim family residence in Batu Lanchang at about 2.30pm on Wednesday (July 2) with DAP and other state leaders.

Sim, the Penang DAP chairman and party deputy secretary-general, said at the wake that his grandfather was a man of few words, but even in his silence, there was wisdom.

"He lived simply, ate simply, and even though his children and grandchildren achieved success, he remained humble," he said.

Sim said his grandfather, a carpenter, had lived a full and meaningful life.

Yeoh, 102, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

His funeral will be held on Thursday (July 3), with the cortege leaving for Batu Gantung crematorium at 2pm.

Among those present at the wake were state local government committee chairman Jason H'ng, welfare committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, and assemblymen Teh Swee Leong (Kota Darul Aman), Goh Choon Aik (Bukit Tambun) and Phee Syn Tze (Sungai Puyu).
